Hungary offers bachelor's, master's, undivided master's and doctoral study through universities with different academic profiles. English and other foreign-language programmes sit alongside Hungarian-taught routes, and requirements are set at programme level.

Institutions set tuition by programme, level and student category, commonly publishing the source fee in EUR or HUF. Application, entrance, registration, laboratory and other charges may be separate, so confirm the complete written schedule before payment.

The institution assesses the prior qualification, subject preparation and teaching-language evidence. Medicine, arts, engineering and other selective routes can add entrance examinations, interviews, portfolios or science prerequisites.

Applicants normally follow the institution's admissions system, while scholarship routes such as Stipendium Hungaricum use a separate application and nomination process. A scholarship application never replaces the university's academic decision.

EU/EEA and third-country students use different residence routes. Students who need a visa or residence permit should confirm the current admission, funds, accommodation, insurance and arrival requirements with Hungary's immigration authority.

Stipendium Hungaricum, bilateral arrangements and institutional awards have distinct eligibility and coverage. Some calls require nomination by a sending partner and use deadlines independent of the university's self-funded route.

Employment access depends on citizenship and residence conditions. Verify current limits and employer requirements before accepting work, and do not make tuition or living plans depend on immediate earnings.

Budapest has the broadest programme and housing market and is usually the highest-cost option. Debrecen, Szeged, Pécs, Miskolc and Győr offer different rental, transport and campus conditions; build the working budget in HUF.

Budapest is the largest academic centre, while Debrecen, Szeged and Pécs host major international university communities and other cities provide specialised programmes. Confirm the faculty's actual teaching location.

Dormitory capacity and eligibility vary by institution and scholarship status. Compare confirmed dormitory offers with verified private rentals, including deposits, utilities, contract length and transport to campus.
